Is my weight affecting my lab results?

Both excess weight (overweight/obesity) and low body weight (underweight) impact blood biomarkers, influencing metabolism, inflammation, organ function, and overall health.

  • Excess weight can lead to insulin resistance (elevated Hemoglobin A1c, Insulin), cholesterol imbalances (low HDL, high LDL), inflammation (higher C-Reactive Protein, Cortisol), and liver strain (elevated ALT, AST, GGT).
  • Being underweight may result in low blood sugar (low Hemoglobin A1c, Insulin), nutrient deficiencies (low Vitamin D, Ferritin), and hormonal imbalances (low Testosterone in men, low Progesterone in women).

While weight can influence lab results, abnormal biomarkers aren’t always caused by weight alone. Other factors such as diet, sleep, stress, and underlying health conditions should also be considered.
